In a East meets West scenario, Justine and Jason showed how much fun an inter-cultural wedding can be. This wedding demonstrated that barriers can disappear when people focus on celebrating the love between two people.
Although the weather did not permit an outdoor wedding, Justine was up beat and jovial before the wedding ceremony. The Britannia Yacht Club was all decked out for the event. There was a bit of a mad scramble 15 minutes before the ceremony because the decorative flowers for the tables had just arrived. The Britannia Yacht Club folks all sprung into action and everything was ready for her walk down the aisle.
The flower girl distributed yellow daisies to the guests as she entered. It was a nice difference from the usual spreading of flower petals on the floor.
The ceremony included a handfasting as a nod to a Western tradition. I tied two pieces of fabric matching their color theme around their hands. They repeated their vows showing that not only were they bound physically and emotionally.
After the ceremony, appetizers including Chinese BBQ were served. After both Justine and Jason changed into Chinese garb, a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony was performed in front of the guests.
Quite the party continued during the evening. It certainly proves that celebrating the love between two people can erase cultural differences.
