It was the “perfect mixture of intimate family and friends, laughter and mischief, as well as loads of colour and culture,” says Shrey Shree, who married Jagpreet Sekhon this past spring. “Our day was truly a coming together of two cultures and traditions.”

Shrey is Hindu and Jagpreet is Sikh. They met at work in 2019. “We were lucky enough to not only have one but two weddings in two different cities,” the bride notes. Since Jagpreet is from Toronto, the first celebration was in that city April 10, followed by festivities in Ottawa at Bean Town Ranch April 14. Describing the two occasions as “extra special and memorable,” Shrey notes that a great team of vendors made everything seem effortless. “I am so thankful that I got to work with them.”

As a COVID-era bride, she notes, “I couldn’t go back home for my own wedding shopping so I had to buy everything online separately.” Home, she says, is Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. “I designed my and my husband’s outfit over a WhatsApp call.” Thanks to the magic of modern communication, she was able to work with her vendor to achieve the look she wanted. “Everything just came together on our big day as I had imagined.”

Highlights of the Ottawa celebration included seeing her hubby as a groom for the first time “and my walk down the aisle, while the rain was pouring down. It is one of the most romantic moments in my life.”
Another favourite part of the day, she adds, is when she and her sister put on a show during cocktail hour. “We performed to this beautiful song that is about an old sister getting married.” The Hindi song, O Jiji, is from the 2006 Bollywood movie Vivah. “It was truly a special moment that I will cherish forever.”
