With most 2020 weddings for Julie & Co Events moved to 2021, creative director Julie McNamara got busy nonetheless. “With free time on our hands, and many people needing a little bit of cheering up, I thought it was a great time to give back to the community,” she says. That’s how The Great Canadian Wedding Giveaway came about, offering front-line workers the chance to win a wedding. There were over 300 eligible applicants and, fittingly, the winners were two front-line workers who each filled out an entry form: Kailey is an RN and Spencer is a MRT in X-ray and CT at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
“We both decided to enter the giveaway because we really just wanted to finally be married,” Kailey explains. “After postponing our initial wedding to wait until after our son was born, we hadn’t made any plans for a new date. After reading about the dream team of vendors Julie had lined up for the day, we couldn’t pass up the chance of winning.”
Julie happens to think the local couple is pretty dreamy, too: “Kailey and Spencer are two of the sweetest people I have ever met,” she notes, describing their wedding day as “sweet.”
“We put a lot of our trust in Julie for the overall decor and she really delivered,” the bride points out. “If I had to pick a style to describe the day I would say it was like an enchanted forest. It was the perfect combination of simplicity with the Wow Factor you’d want on your wedding day, but not over the top.”
As for her bridal style, “I didn’t want to stray too far from my everyday look,” Kailey says. “The makeup artist/hair stylist, Liana Lacroix, delivered with a natural, dewy look that made me feel like the most beautiful version of myself. …The veil that was generously gifted from Sinders really tied together that look I was going for.”
Kailey also particularly appreciated the florals by AM Floral Studio—“The arrangements were so unique and everything I never knew I wanted.”—and the live music: “Luxe Duo played so many of our favourites and really made the special moments during the day that much more memorable.” The venue’s lookout was another highlight. “It was breathtaking and really special to have those quiet moments together with such an incredible view.”
In her words, “Our family is forever grateful for all of the amazing vendors who donated their time and talents to make our wedding day so memorable. Especially to Julie, she made our wedding day magic.”
