Growing up in Ottawa, Trevor and Brigitte lived on the same street. They walked to school together. In those days they dated “very casually,” but decided to stay friends. Years later the friends reconnected, and discovered there was something more significant between them.

On the same sidewalk, in front of Brigitte’s childhood home, where they used to meet to walk to school, Trevor proposed. Their next big walk would be down the aisle.

They intended to tie the knot on New Year’s Eve, 2020, at a hotel downtown, but COVID necessitated a pivot. Instead, an intimate outdoor wedding was in order, and they knew just the place: Yoga Attic. “Every time we visit to practice yoga or attend a retreat, we leave feeling lighter, re-energized, and full of love,” Brigitte notes. “We couldn’t think of a better place to make our love official. It was a dream come true to share this fairy-tale space with our closest friends and family.”

There were 11 guests on site, with 150 guests watching the ceremony via livestream. “Half of my family live in Newfoundland and were unable to attend,” Trevor mentions, admitting getting married during a pandemic was “a bit of an emotional rollercoaster.” Though he was unable to celebrate with those loved ones in person, “what made up for it was that I gained a new family on that day.”

The inter-faith Christian and Jewish wedding had spiritual traditions woven through and Brigitte’s father, Charlie Huot, made the chuppah (Jewish wedding canopy) for the ceremony. The theme was La Vie en Rose, in memory of Brigitte’s grandmaman, Madeleine Huot, who passed away in February of 2020. “La Vie en Rose by Édith Piaf was her favourite song. We carried her in our hearts as we walked down the aisle to this beautiful melody.”

And now that the Yoga Attic nuptials are a happy memory, Brigitte and Trevor have additional festivities in mind. “We plan on celebrating our vows properly down the road, when we can dance in the streets again. Can’t wait to party like it’s 2019.”
