Brooke and Blake’s wedding took place on an impeccably kept, working farm outside Winchester, Ontario. It was anything but an old-school country wedding, though. Yes, the corn stocks were high in the corn fields; there were tractors aplenty in the yard; and the couple made their eventual, just-married departure in a big black pickup truck, but the celebration they hosted was strikingly modern and personal.
Even the venue itself was significant. As Brooke explains, her stepfather’s barn burned down four years ago and, in that fire, many cherished items and memories were lost. “He built this new barn and we made so many new memories in here prepping for the wedding and on our big day. It meant so much to my stepdad and us as well.”
The bright, new space allowed for a layout designed for celebration. Instead of standard wedding seating with people on chairs in rows, Brooke notes, “We had guests sitting at their dinner tables and formed an aisle in between. This allowed guests to socialize and grab a drink before the ceremony even started.” It was pretty special, she adds, “for us to see all of our friends and family, some who didn’t know each other, all smiling and having a good time.”
The colour palette for the celebration was black and white, with greenery, and the theme was “rustic, chic, country and modern—all in one.”
One of the highlights of the day was a group photo that included everyone who was at the ceremony. Another memorable moment happened when it came time to do speeches. “My twin sister made a song for us instead of doing a traditional speech,” Brooke mentions. “It was so funny and they even sang part of it.”
At one point during the day, the new bride and groom stopped to take it all in. What they both witnessed was a gift in itself: “Every single person was smiling and enjoying themselves. It was something we will never forget.”
