Zarucci. The name brings to mind a timeless gown that breathes love and romance through its fine detailing and ornamentation. British-born and Yemeni-raised designer Nora Zabarah Pucci is both the creator of the highly refined Zarucci style and the brains behind the Ottawa-based, Canadian brand.
Nora attributes her signature style to her diverse origins. “Every designer’s style grows from their history and lived experiences…. I carry (with me) the artistry and ornamentation of my Yemeni roots, the openness and modern spirit I found in Canada and the timeless romance and passion of marrying an Italian.”
Her creations have been worn by many prestigious clients, who, in turn, have graced many high-profile occasions, garnering international recognition for the artist and her brand. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau wore a Zarucci gown for Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations, Herieth Paul and Mishael Morgan wore Zarucci to the Oscars and, of course, Sharon Dickinson wore custom Zarucci to the British Royal Wedding.
Today, Nora is taking the brand into a revolutionary new realm by leveraging her Ph.D. research to strategically introduce artificial intelligence into her design process. A doctoral candidate and celebrated designer, she is now a pioneer at the intersection of high fashion and artificial intelligence.
The decision was born from necessity after the bridal industry froze during the 2020 pandemic: “It wasn’t until 2022, when generative AI tools truly emerged, that a new creative path opened up for me,” she says.
Where Creativity Meets Code
Her upcoming bridal collection is a philosophical statement on the future of creative design. Rather than simply handing over the reins, she views AI as a powerful interactive partner that can be used as an ally to human imagination. “I use something called prompt engineering to communicate with the program, which is essentially feeding it my creative vision. For example, I can ask the AI to create a mood board for a modern gothic wedding dress with floral lace and a corset bodice. The AI then generates dozens of ideas, which helps me explore concepts faster than I ever could on my own.”
The technology serves as a brainstorming engine, quickly offering new directions that might have taken weeks to develop through traditional sketching and draping.
The Soul of the Gown Remains Human
Despite integrating technology, Nora is also emphatic about AI’s limitations; she insists that while AI excels at streamlining processes, removing an artisan’s personal judgment, taste and lived experiences ultimately strips any art or brand of its soul.
“Creativity remains—and must remain—with the designer,” she says. “AI can suggest, inspire and surprise, but it cannot feel the emotion behind a bride’s story or sense the delicate balance of silhouette, texture and movement that defines the Zarucci style.”
The Competitive Edge: Efficiency and Sustainability
Beyond sparking creativity, Nora’s evolution into digital workflow provides a significant competitive advantage in two crucial areas: efficiency and sustainability.
AI dramatically improves the production process by predicting how fabrics will drape and respond on a body. This allows the designer to virtually test complex ideas and fabric choices. In introducing AI tools, the physical cost and waste inherent in traditional design methods are reduced.
Time-wise, the capacity to understand technical design aspects in minutes rather than weeks is revolutionary. The use of AI for trend forecasting, consumer insights and analyzing social media data to understand what styles and brand values resonate with today’s evolving bridal market all enable Nora’s business to function with greater efficiency on every level.
The Future is Custom
The most exciting revelation for couples is how this new efficiency will transform the accessibility of Zarucci gowns. This groundbreaking designer sees AI as the key to bringing back a cherished service: custom gowns at a more accessible price point.
“It is a huge part of the vision,” she confirms. “With AI, I can create seamless, efficient design presentations for clients. Instead of just showing them a sketch, I could show them a realistic digital rendering of their custom gown in minutes.”
This allows her to dedicate more time to the artistic process and, once again, take on custom clients, bringing the unparalleled Zarucci quality to a broader base. The first AI-influenced collection is set to launch in Spring 2026.
The designer’s work is a powerful testament to how AI is not replacing human artistry but rather amplifying it, giving the artist more time to create and ensuring Zarucci maintains its competitive edge. This fusion of high fashion and high technology is set to redefine the AIsle. zarucci.com
